Referred to as rowboats by land-bound folk, a gig was easy to lower overboard, needed minimum crew, and was quick to dispatch. When stowed, it nested in the long boat or pilot boat secured in the center of the main deck. Our lapstrake (overlapping strips of wood) gigs are not seaworthy, but they most certainly look like it! Clinker build, they add flair and atmosphere to any room, and display shelves turn them into fun cabinets and bookcases.

Te koop voor 501,90. Het is ongelooflijk dat er zo weinig Admiraliteit lampen uit de begin van 1900 het hebben overleefd. Het kan zijn dat veel van deze werden omgebouwd voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog, toen de mensen gevraagd werden messing en aluminium erfstukken in te zetten. Met behulp van oude en vaak vergeten technieken, is Authentic Models erin geslaagd interessante vormen van vroeger vast te houden en te verwerken in lampen als de Main Hold Lamp. De lampen waaruit Authentic Models zijn inspiratie haalt, zijn indrukwekkend groot en praktisch. Deze lampen werden gebouwd om lang mee te gaan. Authentic Models heeft deze Main Hold lamp ontdekt op een Parijse veiling. Na het vinden van het origineel op een Parijse veiling was Authentic Models gefascineerd toen het aankwam en ze waren in staat om de vleugelmoeren los te maken en de constructie te bestuderen. Deze replica's worden met de hand gemaakt, een voor een, door het dupliceren van elk ontwerp en technisch detail van het origineel.

International maritime communication used Morse as the standard code until 1999. Every Navy vessel carried a variety of Morse code devices on board. The large light next to the wheelhouse on the bridge was the most spectacular and effective one. Handled by a specially trained sailor skilled in signals, it functioned as a ship-bound lighthouse, with the added ability to transmit highly detailed messages. Our spotlight dates back to the 1930s and was likely used on a French Navy battleship. By moving slatted louvers the signalman sent short and longer spaced rays of light that could be read by trained sailors in the distance. Morse code uses long and short elements and combinations to convey a message. The elements making up the code were formed by sounds, marks and pulses of varying length. Created in the 1840s Morse code was in use for more than a century and a half. The famous S.O.S. sent by ships in distress (as on the Titanic) was sent by Morse code.

Being a smart and enterprising person, a navy stock lot of 1930s Half Mile Ray lamps was located. Originally constructed to last a lifetime, he rigged them in series, and to the best of my knowledge they are still working. Our faithful reproduction is mounted on a mahogany tripod, its angle adjustable with a clever piece of 1930s technology. The overall look is cool, contemporary and at the same time historically correct.
